Las Vegas News and Updates 2026
What is actually changing in Las Vegas right now. New shows opening, residencies ending, restaurants closing, hotel renovations, and anything else worth knowing before you book your trip. Written by people who live here and follow the local news closely.
Why this section exists
Most Las Vegas travel guides are written once and never updated. The information about shows, restaurants, and hotels goes stale within months. We publish updates when something material changes - a major show closes, a new residency opens, a hotel finishes a renovation, or a restaurant worth knowing about opens. There is no set schedule. If nothing significant has changed, we do not publish.

What changes most often in Las Vegas?
Shows have the highest turnover of any category. A residency that sold out every night can close with six weeks notice if the artist decides not to renew. Restaurants open and close constantly - celebrity chef concepts in particular have a high failure rate despite the famous names attached. Hotels are more stable but undergo constant renovation cycles that can affect pool access, dining options, and room quality.
Entertainment is the most volatile category. Las Vegas show schedules change constantly. A show that was running when you booked your trip may not be running when you arrive. Always verify show status directly with the venue before purchasing tickets, especially if you are booking more than 60 days in advance. Even major productions like Cirque du Soleil shows have had unexpected closures.
How to stay current before your trip
Check this page a few weeks before you travel. If you have tickets to a specific show, verify the show is still running on the venue's official website. For restaurants, check their Instagram or Google listing for recent activity. For hotels, search for recent reviews on TripAdvisor filtered to the last 30 days - renovation noise and construction issues show up quickly in recent reviews.
The most reliable way to stay current on Las Vegas news is to follow the Las Vegas Review-Journal (the local newspaper) and the Las Vegas Weekly. For entertainment specifically, follow the individual venues and shows on social media. Major changes - show closings, hotel openings, restaurant closures - are usually announced 4-8 weeks in advance, giving you time to adjust your plans.
What to check before your Las Vegas trip
Four weeks before your trip: verify all show tickets are still valid and the show is still running. Check hotel reviews from the past 30 days for any renovation or construction issues. Confirm restaurant reservations are still available. Check if any major events (Formula 1, boxing, New Year's Eve) overlap with your travel dates that might affect hotel prices and availability.
One week before your trip: check weather forecasts (Las Vegas weather is generally predictable but summer heat waves can be extreme). Confirm ground transportation options. Review your hotel's current amenity status - pools, restaurants, and spas sometimes close temporarily for maintenance. Download the apps you will need: Uber/Lyft, your hotel's app, and any show ticketing apps.
Major Las Vegas developments to watch in 2026
Las Vegas is in a period of significant development. The MSG Sphere opened in 2023 and continues to expand its programming. Several new hotel projects are in various stages of development. The Las Vegas Raiders stadium (Allegiant Stadium) continues to attract major events. The Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix has become an annual event that significantly impacts hotel prices in November. The Fontainebleau Las Vegas opened in late 2023 and is still establishing its identity.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often do Las Vegas shows close?
Las Vegas shows close regularly. Major productions typically give 4-8 weeks notice before closing. Smaller shows and residencies may close with less notice. The safest approach is to verify show status directly with the venue within 30 days of your trip, especially if you purchased tickets well in advance.
What is the best way to find out about new Las Vegas shows?
The Las Vegas Review-Journal entertainment section covers new show announcements. Individual venues announce new shows on their websites and social media. This Vegas Updates section covers major new shows as they are announced. For residencies specifically, follow the artists you are interested in - they typically announce Las Vegas residencies on their own social media channels.
Are Las Vegas hotel prices affected by events?
Yes, significantly. Major events like the Formula 1 Grand Prix (November), New Year's Eve, major boxing matches, and large conventions can double or triple hotel prices. The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January fills the city. The National Finals Rodeo in December is another major event. If you are flexible on dates, avoiding these events can save hundreds of dollars on hotel costs.
